Monthly Market Review & Outlook – October 2026

In September, most U.S. equities declined, with the S&P 500 edging slightly lower. Technology stocks outperformed, however, and the Nasdaq advanced approximately 2%.
Inflation Pressures & Rising Yields: Inflation concerns persisted as Middle East tensions pushed oil prices higher. Bond yields rose sharply, and the Fed raised rates by 0.25%, heightening concerns about tighter financial conditions and slower growth. Financials, cyclicals, and small-cap stocks declined sharply.
Tech Rebound: As we anticipated last month, technology stocks rose, supported by relatively attractive valuations and their defensive characteristics in a potentially slowing economy.
Hyperscalers and Semiconductors Outperformed: Meta’s release of its Muse AI agent generated significant attention and helped renew enthusiasm around AI. Hyperscalers and semiconductor companies with exposure to AI infrastructure and CPU-related demand rallied strongly.
Our Portfolio Performance
Our portfolio outperformed the broader market in September, driven by our strategic overweights in the hyperscalers and semiconductors. The largest individual contributors to this outperformance were Meta Platform and AMD. October 2026 Market Outlook
October marks the start of earnings season. Economically sensitive areas such as financials and small-cap stocks appear oversold after recent sharp declines. As earnings season unfolds, results may show that fundamentals are not as weak as current stock prices imply. We expect a broader market rebound into year-end. We continue to favor AI-related stocks and plan to selectively rebuild exposure to financials and oversold small-cap names.
